takes rice's defense acting cia director mike morell will accompany her on those senate meetings. remember it's mike morell who wrote the unclassified talking points from the intelligence community that rice was briefed on to use publicly for the sunday talk shows. last night on fox news graham said he intends to ask rice some very direct questions. >> she asked to meet with us, and i will listen to what she has to say about her role in benghazi. i can tell you this, the more i know about benghazi, the more upset i am that the consulate was even open on september 11. the more i look into what they were telling us on the 16th, the 18th, and the 25th, are days after the attack, the more it sounds like a political smokescreen rather than a confused situation. >> mccain told nbc news the following. my concerns are obviously that she told the american people things that were patently false. people don't go to demonstrations with mortars and rocket propelled grenades. ayotte said the meeting is crucial to determine whether rice is fit to be secretary of state. quote, i would hold the n

corker of tennessee, both have been surprising public critics. her day one defense of her response in the benghazi attack and fence mending efforts to put it bluntly didn't go so well. >> we are significantly troubled by many of the answers that we got and some that we didn't get. bottom line, i'm more disturbed now than i was before. >> i want to say that i'm more troubled today. >> i'm told the meeting itself didn't go as badly as it sounded there. that said graham compared rice to john bolton who democrats blocked after bush nominated him to be u.n. ambassador. remember, he ended up being a recess appointment. asked by defense news whether he'll put a hold on rice's nomination if she is appointed graham said, quote, oh, absolutely. i would place a hold on anybody who wanted to be promoted to any job who had a role in the benghazi situation. now rice clearly did not have the day the white house envisioned. the question is whether her outreach went so badly that it somehow scares the president and the white house and they decide it's not worth the heavy lift to nominate her. ultimate

defense minister barack announced he is quitting politics. he served as prime minister and said he will stay on the job until the january 22nd election but would then take time to concentrate on his personal life. there had been talk that if he continued in the coalition government he might succeed netanyahu. remember, in israel to be a prime minister, you have to have lost as prime minister once. back here at home, congresswoman shelly capito will announce she is running for the seat held by jay rockefeller. capito's bid could put pressure on rockefeller who is 75 years old. he has indicated so far that he does plan to run again in 2014. there's always been speculation, though, that he may decide to retire. it's a big issue for senate democrat in 2014. a lot of veteran senators up like rockefeller, tom harkin, baucus, guys there three, four, five terms. the u.s. supreme court will decide whether it should consider legalizing gay marriage nationwide. there are several cases they could hear, some challenging the federal defense of marriage act, one prop 8 and another case in arizona that
